How does NH define cruelty or neglect?
Cruelty and neglect can take many forms. Below are descriptions of what circumstances qualify under NH state law:
- Lack of food, water and shelter
- Failure to provide proper veterinary care
- Neglect
- Abandonment
- Forced to lie in excrement
- Not enough room to move freely about
- Physical abuse

Have you witnessed a crime involving animals? Do you suspect an animal is being mistreated? If so, please contact us so with information. Due to the confidential nature of these cases, we won’t be able to provide you with any details regarding the results of the investigation.

Guideline for Reporting Abuse
NHHS will conduct investigations into allegations of abuse and neglect. We are not generally available for emergency response, so if you see a situation that warrants immediate assistance, please call your police department or your town manager’s office.
Complaints regarding barking dogs, animals at large, or animal bites should be reported directly to your police department.
