Pet lovers who are able to read at any level may come into the shelter to read to the cats in one of our cat social rooms. Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Cat Tales encourages reading, improves skills, and helps our cats by offering quiet, kind, loving human interaction. Bring your own book or choose one from our library. One short initial orientation session is required.

Participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and attend one of our Volunteer Orientations. Those are scheduled throughout the year and someone will be in touch to help you sign up for a date and time that works for you.

Fundraising and Event Ideas

Many young people initiate and organize their own fundraising activity or event to benefit the shelter. Some examples of recent efforts include: hosting a car wash, food sales, holding a goods drive at school, hosting a pancake breakfast fundraiser, asking for birthday party donations for the shelter, selling raffle tickets at sporting and other events, making catnip toys and collecting blankets for kennels. We would love to hear your ideas!
